Mama’s Night Out: Make Your Going Out Beauty Routine Simple and Affordable
So, Mama, ready for a night out?
Do you even remember the last time you put on a full face of makeup? Do you even still own makeup? Or, you do but maybe it's expired now? I know how you feel. I used to be a true makeup junkie. I had drawers and drawers full of expensive brand name stuff. However, once I hit Mommy status, makeup took a very distant backseat. I couldn't even tell you the last time I did a full makeup routine and wore my hair in any style but a Mom bun. I do know it was sometime in fall 2018... it's now March 2019.
Oh, Mom life. So, last time I took a look in my beautiful makeup drawer, a lot of it had expired. Then I went on a crazy minimalism streak and moved into a camper. Needless to say, the remaining makeup didn’t make the cut (I’m so kicking myself for not keeping the original Naked palette).
Now I’m all about a small, affordable makeup collection. I try to shop only drugstore but there are a few higher end products I’ve repurchased. I save them for special occasions. Here’s a link to my daily makeup routine. No frills there at all!
So we’re going out for a well deserved date night. Keep reading to find out what this Mom will be wearing. (This post contains affiliate links).
For moisturizer, I love Garnier face products. They work really well with my skin and don't cause me to breakout. I'm really liking the Garnier Clearly Brighter Daily Moisturizer right now. I honestly don't moisturize like I should but I'm trying to get better. Next up is foundation; here's where I splurge a bit. I've never really found drugstore foundation that I like. My go-to foundation is always Estée Lauder Double Wear. When I want it to cover something up, I put it on thicker and, trust me, it covers everything. I go a little more light handed if I just want to even out my skin tone. It always looks gorgeous, though. I appreciate products that always perform well and the same.
Next up is cheeks. Whether I'm doing my 2 minute makeup routine or doing a full face, I use the same blush. The BEST drugstore blush I’ve found so far is Cover Girl’s Instant Cheekbones in Sophisticated Sable. There are 3 shades in the compact and all of them lean towards the peachy side with a little pink. I mix the shimmer and matte together and it just makes my cheeks look awesome. There is a highlighter shade in this blush but I prefer to use Becca's Champagne Pop. Yes, this is a little on the pricey side BUT I got a mini version in a holiday set so I feel like it was a good value. Plus the stuff lasts forever (and it can double as a gorgeous eyeshadow!).
Brows and Eyes
My brow routine never changes. I’ve always used brow mascaras. My current favorite is NYX Tinted Brow Mascara in Brunette. This is super hard to mess up and I feel like it defines my brows really well.
Eyeshadow has always been my favorite step. At one time I had like 40 palettes! While I do miss a lot of them, I do like not being as overwhelmed with choices. Being a Mom, it's nice to not have one more thing overwhelming you, right? So my go-to palette has been the Sleek Goodnight Sweetheart palette. I tend to like cooler shadow tones and the colors in this palette are just so soft and pretty. You can also go more dramatic if you like. Plus, it's $12.99 - I'm sold on the price alone! I tend to keep my eye looks pretty simple. Something matte and darker in the crease with something light and shimmery on the lid (Champagne Pop looks amazing!). I've never been great with eyeliner so I just smudge some shadow on my lower lash line and I'm good to go.
Last up is lips. I'm not going to lie, I'm a one lipstick girl right now. Essence (found in Ulta) discontinued my absolute favorite lipstick so I'm pretty upset. A great lip product can be hard (and expensive) to find, right? So I tend to stick with Physician’s Formula SPF 15 Murumuru Butter Lip Cream in Mauvin’ to Brazil. The formula is super moisturizing and the shade is beautiful. My other favorite is Maybelline's Touch of Spice. This is one of those shades that's warmer than I usually wear but seems to look universally good on everyone.
So this is my affordable (mostly) Mom's night out makeup routine. If you have to ask, yes, my hair is probably still in the Mom bun. Baby steps, right?
